OPINION:SOLUTIONS TO THE OUTRAGEOUS INCREASE IN THE PRICE OF SACHET WATER

Sachet water popularly known as '' pure water '' in most cities, towns and villages in Nigeria, over the years has been 10 Naira even in recession. This is because pure water is inelastic and is a necessity. Water is very important to the human health and is not '' any other liquid ''. There is a popular saying that a man can go without food for three days but will surely die without water. Water they say is life and i am yet to witness any human being that can stay without it.

The human body is made up of 60% water, and it,being a basic requirement performs a lot of functions to the human body which are not limited to the following; it lubricates the joints,it delivers oxygen throughout the body,it boosts skin health and beauty.

WHAT IS THE FUSS ALL ABOUT?

Recently there has been a spike in the prices of sachet water, from 10 naira to 20 naira and in some places 25 naira. No Nigerian is happy about this.

WHAT ARE THE PRODUCERS SAYING?

Some pure waterpreneurs[people who produce pure/sachet water] say it is because of the increase in tax rate imposed on them, others say it is as a result of the high cost of production. I really cannot put all the  blame on them. There has been an increase in the cost of raw materials, electricity, they also have to pay their workers, plus they also deal with miscellaneous expenses here and there and still need profit. No producer would love to produce goods at his own loss.

MY OPINION:PURE WATER: A NATURAL RESOURCE

FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF A HUSTLING NIGERIAN TEENAGER

Sachet bags are actually made from low density polythene THAT CAN BE RECYCLED.

We should not waste things especially in this period. We see in highly populated cities like Lagos,Abuja,Port Harcourt even to low populated areas like Bayelsa, in fact i do not think there is any city you go to in Nigeria that you would not see a sachet bag on the floor, streets,in gutters or in a corner.

Dear waterpreneurs, you need not to waste.

The government on the other hand should look into this matter. It would not tell well of a country if an average man cannot purchase water. The government can build or renovate an old factory that is not useful and produce pure water at a cheaper rate. So that everyone can be happy and also this will help in so many ways not limited to the following:

*It would enable the poor masses to buy water at cheaper prices.

*It would reduce the re-occurence of suppliers determining/influencing the  prices of sachet water

*Provision of employment

This will also push the waterpreneurs to reduce the prices of pure water.

This is my second blog and i am so excited.Writing this one was tough but to God be the glory I could successfully write, edit and publish it.

I love my country and I want a better Nigeria. This would not stop the unnecessary killings, rape and terrorism but we can start from somewhere.
